Members have access to local and national job bank information. Searches can be customized for members moving out of state.

Career Services

Utah Chapter members can obtain FREE resume and interviewing tips, sample resumes and letters of recommendation and more on the Chapter website. After preparing the final resume, Utah Chapter members may have it reviewed one time by the Utah Chapter executive director. Utah Chapter members may also schedule a free 15 minute MOCK interview with the Utah Chapter executive director.

Malpractice Insurance 

NASW offers very affordable comprehensive malpractice insurance for members. The program is reported to be one of the best in the county. There is a complimentary, one-year $22,000 term life insurance policy and a $160-a-day hospital indemnity benefit for one year, from the NASW Insurance Trust, for first-time full paying members. Student members become eligible for free coverage.* 

Licensing Assistance

Members may obtain answers to FAQ about licensing on the Chapter website or by calling the Utah Chapter office. Members also receive discounts on licensing exam study materials.

Government Relations 

NASW works to eliminate potentially harmful bills that limit social workers’ ability to perform their jobs. They also work to protect social workers’ jobs, lobby for equitable reimbursements, and to educate legislators about the importance of the social work profession. Highly qualified paid staff represent members on both the national and local level. Members can quickly research issues and correspond with legislators through NASW.

Networking Opportunities

NASW activities provide an excellent opportunity for social workers to share ideas and information with colleagues.  In addition, members can meet with suppliers, potential employers, and agency representatives at conferences and workshops.  Local and national volunteer leadership opportunities are also available.   

Publications

Local and national newsletters link members with job opportunities, information to help manage a professional career, professional support, and continuing education opportunities.  Members also receive the Social Work Journal connecting them to the latest research in the profession. In addition, members can utilize the Chapter library for research needs.

Specialty Practice Sections

Members may enhance their membership by joining a specialty practice section, which offers cutting edge information in practice areas such as Child Welfare; Adolescents and Young Adults (CAYA); Health; Aging; Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drugs (ATOD); Private Practice; School Social Work; and Economic Justice and Peace. 

Continuing Education

NASW members can attend monthly branch luncheon meetings and earn many FREE CEUs each year.  In addition, members receive significant discounts on conferences, workshops, and online continuing education classes. Members may also receive FREE CEUs through the national office of NASW. The Utah Chapter provides continuing education event review for workshop organizers throughout the state in order to ensure quality workshops that meet state requirements. Legal and Ethical Assistance

An NASW representative is available for free consultation for professional/ethical concerns. The national office provides legal consulting services for members and legal financial aid opportunities. The Utah Chapter has a Professional Standards Committee that offers assistance with ethical questions. Members can also access articles that provide answers to frequently asked legal questions on the Utah Chapter website (and earn CEUs from reading these articles)!

Mentorship Program

The Utah Chapter has a mentorship program that pairs early career social workers with established, experienced mentors.  This members-only benefit will pair a seasoned social worker with an early career social worker with similar professional interests and goals

EAPrefer

NASW members can join the EAPrefer program, a network of licensed social workers paired with EAP provider companies—a great referral mechanism!
