In Utah, there are two levels of social work licensing that require continuing education for license renewal.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Amount: 40 hours (40 CEUs) per 2-year licensing cycle
Licensing Cycle: October 1st to September 30th of even-numbered years
Required Topics: 3 hours in ethics; 2 hours in suicide prevention
Home Study Hours Allowed: 15 of the 40 per licensing cycle
Social Service Worker (SSW)
Amount: 20 hours (20 CEUs) per 2-year licensing cycle
Licensing Cycle: October 1st to September 30th of even-numbered years
Required Topics: 3 hours in ethics; 2 hours in suicide prevention
Home Study Hours Allowed: 10 of the 20 per licensing cycle

- Clinical Tools, Inc., with funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, has developed a 2-hour online suicide prevention course called Ending Suicide for Professionals.
