NASW, Utah Chapter Statement on Pittsburgh
Share |

NASW stands in solidarity with the Pittsburgh community and all communities impacted by marginalization, racism, discrimination and violence.  We are deeply saddened by the loss of life at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, and in Louisville, where two African American patrons were fatally shot in another alleged hate crime, and extend our condolences to all those impacted directly and indirectly.

As stated in our Code of Ethics, social workers have a dual responsibility to clients and our broader society to challenge social injustice and respect the inherent dignity and worth of all people.  As social workers, we can be that measured, collective voice to restore tolerance and civility, while working to prevent racism, visa and travel bans, profiling, and discrimination based on race, religion, country of origin, gender, or sexual orientation.
